Charleston's PTO will begin a fundraiser where there is nothing to buy or sell! That's right! All we need is your support and your old shoes! We are looking for community members and CES families to help support us by agreeing to collect 25 pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes in the 6 weeks following Spring Break.
Although the Funds2Orgs Shoe Drive will benefit our school with the much needed funds for our Chairs for Excellence campaign, it will also benefit the natives of underdeveloped nations by supporting micro enterprise programs in Haiti, Ghana, Nicaragua, Togo, Honduras, Swaziland, Guatemala, Bolivia, Tanzania, Botswana, Benin, Zambia, and Senegal. Our second hand shoes will be used by people in these impoverished countries where they will repurpose and sell them. This enables them to form an income so they can pay for housing, food, educational expenses, etc. A true WIN-WIN!
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Here's how you do it:
Go out and collect 25 pairs of shoes (any age or style works!). Start in your family's closets--gather pairs of shoes that your family has outgrown, or are out of style and/or season. If you've collected 25 pairs, great, you're done! If not, ask your extended family members, neighbors, co-workers, etc. for their help. If you can't collect 25 pairs, then try for 15, 10, or 5. Any and all donations will help!
Will you pledge to collect 25 pairs of shoes? Fill out the pledge sheet that was sent home, or you can take the pledge by simply clicking here to be redirected to our Sign-Up Genius page! We will send home 25 binding bands to pair your shoes together and large bag. Label your bag with your child's name, grade, & his or her teacher's name, toss your paired shoes in the bag, and return them to school!
